Why Patients Choose
Direct Primary Care
Haven Family Health originated from the idea of providing unparalleled patient-centered care. We wish to bring the care back to healthcare. Our focus is the patient and spending more time with you. Doctor's appointments can be intimidating, but that shouldn't be the case. We are here to remake the meaning of doctor's appointments by offering you a different innovative practice that makes you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way. See below to understand our Direct Primary Care (DPC) model.
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model where the provider is able to focus more on the patient and providing quality care by removing insurance from the equation. Members get charged a low monthly fee and this covers almost all the primary care and urgent care services. Through this model, the provider is able to focus on what matters most which is spending more time with the patient and being more accessible. We keep our patient panel low in order to get to know our patients really well and personalize care for you. Our focus here is quality, not quantity. When you are a part of our practice, it is like having a doctor in the family.
Why Haven Family Health?
Haven Family Health is different from many other practices because we have a more holistic interdisciplinary approach to patient care. We care about spending time with you to understand the various aspects of your health and addressing the root cause of every problem. We offer many other services for your convenience including point of care testing at minimal cost.
Patients who have insurance can also be part of our practice. We just wouldn't take your insurance, but you can still use it for labs, imaging, medications, and for your specialists. Patients who don't have insurance get discounted rates for labs, images, and even medications by becoming a member.
Here at Haven Family Health, we create a very welcoming atmosphere and try to make doctors appointments as pleasant as possible. As a patient, you will see the difference in our care. It is a more patient-centered holistic approach where we are a team. To learn more about Dr. James and her philosophy of care click here
Why should I choose this model even if I have insurance?
Many patients still choose to join our Direct Primary Care practice even if they have insurance for the following reasons
-
A better patient care experience
-
A doctor who has a more holistic approach
-
Assurance they have one and only one provider who they can develop a long-term relationship with
-
Prompt response times
-
Direct access to Dr. James to discuss clinical matters even outside office appointments
-
If anything acute comes up, Dr. James will get back to you right away and get you started on a treatment plan
-
Avoiding any and all delays in patient care
-
Unlimited office visits and virtual visits
-
Access to Dr. James even when your are traveling. This includes having labs, images or medications ordered even when you are out of state if something acute comes up and cannot wait till you return home
-
A small cozy clinic setting with a small team who you get to know on a first name basis and gives you the old-school family doctor's office feel
-
Unrushed 30 -60 minute long office visits
-
A team that works tirelessly to coordinate care for you and follow up on things
-
You can still use insurance for medications, labs, pap, images, mammogram, referrals, procedures and studies ordered by Dr. James (exception applies to HMO plans and medicaid)
-
Working with a physician who prioritizes you and is proactive about your health rather than waiting till problems come up
-
Knowing that you are not just a number among the 2,000-3,000 patient panel a doctor usually has to maintain in an insurance based system. Instead at a Direct Primary Care practice, patient panels are capped around 250-400 patients
What about Emergencies and Hospitalization?
If you are uninsured and cannot afford traditional insurance then enrolling in a healthshare program may be a good option to cover any emergencies that may come up in the future. The Direct Primary Care membership with Haven Family Health would provide comprehensive primary care coverage but DPC membership does not include coverage for OB, urgent care visits, surgeries, ER visits or hospital visits. This is where a healthshare plan can assist you.
You have the option to choose from various healthshare plans offered in the market including Clearwater, Christian Healthshare, Sedera Health, etc. Certain plans like Christian Healthshare may reimburse your monthly DPC membership and we can provide you with a bill to submit for reimbursement. The Clearwater program offers a special discount for Haven Family Health members. We are not part of Clearwater nor can we guarantee coverage of services through them. You should contact them directly to understand the best plan for you and coverage of services. They also offer you the option of traditional insurance if you wish to explore your options.
